With all of the twists and turns of Season 3, it's hard to imagine what's in store for the Henrickson family, their friends, enemies, and fans with the return of HBO's Big Love on January 10, 2010. To get ready for the return of the Henricksons, here's a recap of Big Love Season 3.
Barb Henrickson
To get back at her sister for a deal gone wrong between their husbands and Alby in regards to a revealing church document suggesting plural marriage should have never been banned, Barb's sister Cindy informs the bishop of the church that Barb is living a polygamous lifestyle. Barb is excommunicated from the church and comes to a crossroads, so to speak, feeling that she has been thrust into "eternal darkness" and will not join her family in the afterlife.
Nicolette Grant and Margene Heffman
Unbeknownst to the rest of the Henrickson clan, Nicki steals Margene's identify and takes a job with the district attorney's office to spy for Adaleen and Roman, finding out the real names of the Jane Does who will testify against Roman at trial. Nicki also becomes romantically involved with her boss, the district attorney. Margene finds out Nicki's lies and threatens to expose Nicki if she doesn't quit the job.
Margene uses the dirt she finds out about Nicki to her own advantage and suggests to the rest of the Henrickson family that Nicki will stay home with the children while Margene goes back to work, much to Nicki's displeasure. With her QVC debut, Margene is a huge success, selling out her entire inventory.
Eventually Barb and Bill find out what Nicki's been up to and this only enrages Bill after having already found out about Nicki taking birth control for four years behind everyone's backs. Bill forces Nicki to move out of her home, leaving their two boys behind. Nicki returns to the Henrickson family at the end of Season 3 with her teenage daughter from a previous marriage in tow.
The Fourth Wife
Bill meets a waitress, Ana, who he begins to have feelings for. Ever-curious Margene finds out and befriends Ana, then pushes Bill to bring Ana into the family as the fourth wife. When Barb finds out, she is against adding another wife until she has a cancer scare. She then sees Ana as a friend and gives Bill her blessing. Bill and Ana marry; however, once Bill suggests to Ana that she pool her life savings with the rest of the family's money, Ana balks and asks for a divorce.
Sarah, Her Miscarriage and Engagement
Sarah Henrickson finds out she is pregnant and then breaks up with her boyfriend and father of the baby, Scott. Sarah at first wants to give the baby up for adoption, then later decides to keep the baby. Stressed from keeping the baby a secret from her family and ex-boyfriend, disgust with her parents' life choices and the thought of adding a fourth wife, Sarah suffers a miscarriage. She then asks Scott to marry her and he accepts.
Roman Grant
Roman gets off easy at the trial, but he's not free. He is released and ordered to attend therapy and is put on probation. Bill and Roman work with the DA in the release of Ted and Cindy's daughter who was kidnapped by the Greenes. Roman is also involved with the death of Kathy Marquart, Joey's soon-to-be second wife. When Kathy is killed on their wedding day, Joey goes off the deep end and Season 3 ends with Joey smothering Roman to death with a pillow.
